We’re working hard to ensure our campuses and facilities are equipped to safely support on-campus activities and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Through our COVIDSafe Plan, we have a number of different safety measures and protocols in place to protect the health and safety of everyone on campus and to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

We continue to monitor the situation closely and will continue to do all we can to ensure the safety of our staff and students. This may include adding additional safety measures such as temperature checks and limiting building or campus access.

Common, high-touch areas are cleaned multiple times a day and are also thoroughly cleaned overnight.
Everyone is responsible for cleaning the equipment they use before and after use with the wipes available. This includes:
Hand sanitisers stations (wall mounted and free standing) are located at entrances and throughout RMIT buildings.
Wipes are available in kitchens, computer rooms and at the reception of RMIT buildings.
Cleaning staff check levels daily to make sure there are enough supplies.
Air quality is important, and when combined with our broad range of COVIDSafe measures, contributes to our COVID safety. Facilities are operating building ventilation in line with the directions from the Department of Health.
RMIT is fully compliant with Victorian Government advice for ventilation, and what is required including:
RMIT has configured our control systems to maximise the supply of fresh outdoor air into spaces where we are able to. Staff and students can also open windows where possible.
We also hold the International Organisation for Standardisation standards ISO 55001 for Strategic Asset Management and ISO 41001 for Facilities Management which certifies RMIT for having best in class management systems.
If we have a positive case on campus, RMIT activates its Case Management Team to ensure the safety of staff and students impacted by the case.
RMIT is required by the Department of Health to conduct contact tracing to assist the department in its investigations.
Staff and students who are identified as an exposed person or workplace contact with a positive case are contacted immediately once RMIT has done initial contact tracing with clear instructions about what action they need to take. This is ahead of the Department of Health (with their permission) to ensure we are minimising the risk of exposure and transmission as quickly as possible.
Alongside providing advice and support, RMIT deactivates their access passes until they have completed what is required as an exposed person or workplace contact.

Staff and students are also strongly encouraged to inform RMIT if they have been identified as an exposed person or workplace contact outside of RMIT. This is so we can ensure they have the right support and so we can manage their access to campus while they complete their isolation.

COVID Check-In Marshals are located at building entrances across campus.
They are there to make sure everyone is using the government-mandated QR check in codes to enter buildings and can assist you in checking in if you need help.
All of our spaces have COVIDSafe Champions who are senior members of staff responsible for monitoring and making sure that our safety practices are followed.
They will also make sure breeches of protocols are addressed.
If someone does breach any of RMIT’s COVIDSafe protocols, they face potentially serious consequences.
For students, these include:
First breach: Formal written warning and coaching on protocols.
Second breach: Temporary suspension from campus requirement to repeat the COVIDSafe Training Module.
Third breach: Executive suspension and Student Conduct Board hearing.
