Membership terms and conditions

This information applies to students of the Australian campus unless otherwise noted. Students at the Vietnam campus should check with their local Library for your entitlements.
Please note:

RMIT University Library reserves the right, where necessary, to:

  • Restrict items in high demand to a shorter loan period without prior notice, and
  • Recall an item by issuing a Library Recall Notice, giving the new due date the item is to be returned by.

Before visiting the campus, you must register as a Short Course borrower.

You can borrow from our Library if your home library is a member of the Cooperative Action by Victorian Academic Libraries (CAVAL) or the University Libraries of Australia and New Zealand (ULANZ) reciprocal borrowing schemes.

Borrowing from the Library collection

To obtain a borrower card, visit any of our Library sites and present your valid photo ID (e.g. driver's license, passport) to the Concierge. The card will be issued on the spot.

Access to online resources

You can access a subset of Library databases, e-journals, and e-books. You can also access your LibrarySearch account to check your loans and place holds.

If you are a first-time user, you will need to reset your RMIT account. Use your RMIT student number or registered email address.

Applying for library membership

Community members, including Open University Australia (OUA) students not enrolled through RMIT University can join the Library as fee-paying borrowers.

Contact the Library and we will issue you with a borrowing card once we receive your payment. You have a choice of the following membership options and prices:

  • 3 months: $55.00
  • 6 months: $110.00
  • 12 months: $220.00

Prices are GST inclusive. We accept payments by EFTPOS/credit card only (Mastercard, Visa or Bankcard). Evidence of identity, such as a driver’s licence, will be required.

University of Third Age (U3A) students can register for free.

Please note: access to our subscription-based online resources is not included.
